Are You a Leader (Part 2)

Are you bored with the stay at home regulations? Are you frustrated at losing time over the Covid 19 situation? In the second post of our Are You A Leader series, we look at how a leader could respond to a crisis like this and at what makes a leader.

Today is Easter Sunday but it is not  your standard Easter Sunday. Today, there is no church service and Easter lunch afterwards with the extended family. Today, the news has been only about the number of people who have lost their lives to Covid 19 and the numbers being hospitalized. Today, the world needs you; your neighbors need you; your children need you to tell them that everything will be okay ; your friends need you; your colleagues need you. Today you can be a leader in your community. Today you can take the lead in helping the people around you.

So, what should you do?

What would you do if you had the title of CEO of your community? Help the situation of course.  Perhaps you could get a few  people together  (zoom or any other form of indirect contact) wiith  the object of  forming a neighborhood help group ? Perhaps you could connect groups of people based on their respective expertise to handle different aspects of the situation? Perhaps you could help the lady selling snacks door to door to set up an online ordering system so she can feed her family and comply with the social distancing requirements? Identify the most serious issues facing your community at this time and solutions to ease the situation. Once you start the process, you will quickly find a team around you, eager to contribute. Eager to help.

You see, leadership is not a title. It is a mindset. Leadership is not bestowed on you. It is a choice you make.  Leadership does not need you to know everything. It compels you to find solutions. Leadership means understanding that a team is comprised of many, one of whom is the leader. Leadership does not mean being the boss; it is being the one who volunteers to participate. Leadership is being the one who puts your hand up when no one wants to ( because you know instinctively that someone has to). Leadership is knowing you will need help and, asking for help. Leadership is the sincere wish to help, and to serve.

Remember: Anyone; everyone can be a leader. Today, the world needs you.

Editor’s note: the Covid 19 situation has started to feel like a war. People stay indoors. Health services are overwhelmed. Jobs are being terminated . Schools are closed.  if you believe you are a leader, do something today for your community. Help to heal the world. Make it a better place ........for you and for me and the entire human race......

Remember: Anyone, everyone, can make a difference.
